Writing pick-up stories for my university newspaper

Yes! Very difficult compared to a modern keyboard.

How is social media changing news?

It's adding a whole new way of viewing news and journalism, and opening the industry to people who never could have been a part of it before

Joan Callamezzo from Parks and Recreation is the only correct answer.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Being a journalist means covering the important issues and telling the stories of those who need it.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

A little lewd and inappropriate, but many journalists shorten "journalism" to "#j'ism"

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I love hearing about new things, and I love pitching stories myself. Fresh content is what drives journalism forward.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

A laptop, recorder, pen and notepad, and my listening ears

What's your favorite social network?

I'd say Reddit!

Who do you wish followed you?

My mother won't follow me on Twitter and I don't know why

Why did you become a journalist?

It was the only possible option for my aspirations to make the world better and help people.

I will say I have made some pretty bad pitches myself, but I'm always learning

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

Queer journalism has a stereotype of being whiny and based in identity politics, which is the opposite of true
