The U.S. Retreat from Afghanistan: 5 Years On
About On August 26, an ISIS-K suicide bomber killed 13 American service members and roughly 170 Afghans at Abbey Gate, one of the entrances to Kabul airport. Four days after that, the last U.S. service member left Afghanistan. Then, on Sept. 7, 2021, the Taliban declared the restoration of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. These anniversaries have not sparked much media interest.

The Reliability of God's Word
In a world where it is difficult to know what to trust or who to trust, it is a comfort to know that we can absolutely trust in the reliability of God’s Word. Many have criticized this holy book over the years, but their criticisms have been defeated every time. The truths of the Bible, be they historical, archaeological, scientific, or on matters of faith and practice, have been verified again and again, attesting to the accuracy of God’s Word.
Three Reasons To Cut Bureaucratic Bloat, Only One Is Money Original
For first time since , a rescission bill was enacted to cancel approved federal spending. A key part of the effort is to cut the size of government — one of President Trump’s principal initiatives, mainly through the Department of Government Efficiency, initially run by Elon Musk.
Opinion | Voice of America Is Broken and Can’t Be Reformed
President Trump, in a March 14 executive order, called for the elimination of the U.S. Agency for Global Media to the extent possible by law. The agency oversees five international broadcasters, including Voice of America—whose mission is to broadcast accurate news and advocate for American ideals around the world. Many say it’s better to fix what’s broken about the broadcasters and keep the good parts. I tried to do that in 2020 and failed.
MICHAEL PACK: Why We Don’t Stop Antisemitic Violence
We are living through a new wave of antisemitic violence, from college campuses to the streets of our major cities. Why is this happening, and why do our leaders do so little to stop it? To understand, you need to look back at the event that set the pattern, the worst antisemitic riot in American history, which happened in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, in August 1991. The riot raged for three days before the city put a stop to it. Why?
The Remnant by Michael Pack
The day I lost my sight, I could no more see you, my love, Still God is in the remnant. The day I can not hear Your lovely voice reveal your thoughts, Yet God is in the remnant. The day I can not move My lips to speak my love to you, Still God is in the remnant. The day I lose my memory, And all the times we shared are gone, Yet God is in the remnant. The day I don’t know you, And can not find my love in life, Still God is in the remnant, And you are by His side. —Michael Pack Image by T.
Fighting the culture war one documentary at a time
The documentary Emmys were announced on Sept. 28. As an Emmy voter, I can attest to the consistently high quality of these winners. No one should be surprised that many were liberal, such as HBO Max’s The Janes, about a Chicago group that performed over 11,000 abortions before Roe v. Wade, that Hillary Clinton was the executive producer of a Netflix winner, or that not a single film has a conservative point of view.

You Can’t Fight the Culture War Without Making Movies
Conservatives complain that they are losing the culture wars. And they are right. That won’t change until conservatives actually produce culture, which would be good for everyone. American culture would be enriched by art made by artists with diverse viewpoints and experiences. Conservatives could start with independent and documentary films; they are increasingly influential but much less expensive than Hollywood movies. Yet, many, on both sides, don’t believe conservatives can make good films.

What I know of Clarence Thomas's character
Washington Examiner, Original Article Posted by Judy W. — Post Reply Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’s character and integrity have come under incessant attack in the last few months, from endless articles in the press to the recent Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the supposed need for Supreme Court ethics reform. The Left’s attacks on Thomas aren’t new. But this most recent wave is particularly troubling. Let’s look at how it started, where I have some personal experience.
Arkansas health agency ends race-based scholarship after lawsuit
The Arkansas Minority Health Commission agreed to settle a lawsuit that accused the state government agency of violating federal law by providing a scholarship to exclusively minority students entering the healthcare field. The lawsuit was filed last month by the medical watchdog group Do No Harm, which said in court filings that the commission was violating federal law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race.
The Fed has fallen into a trap
Between the end of September 2022 and the end of March 2023, my shares of a U.S. commercial real estate fund in which I am invested were devalued from $6.13 million to $3.81 million, meaning I lost $2.3 million in just six months. This was my largest loss ever on an investment . It was primarily due to devaluations of office and retail properties in the U.S. as a result of rising interest rates.

To solve DC's crime problem, local leaders should look to Dallas
The Washington , D.C., criminal justice system is failing to protect its citizens. In the past month alone, a 9-year-old girl was shot and wounded in southeast Washington, and a young woman was brutally murdered in a northeast Washington hotel room. 'KIDS ARE KIDS' IS NO WAY TO HANDLE VIOLENT CRIMINALS This year, Washington has seen 65 homicides — a 25% increase from this time last year, according to the Metropolitan Police Department .
Increasingly armed IRS and other agencies should worry us all
The IRS and other federal agencies continue to militarize at a furious and dangerous pace. Reasonable elected officials would act to demilitarize those agencies forthwith. A new report by the watchdog group Open The Books tells the tale.
Reclaiming the Culture through Film – Law & Liberty - Michael Pack
Along with my wife and business partner, Gina Cappo Pack, I have been producing documentaries for many years. Over 15 of our films have been nationally broadcast on PBS. All have won awards and garnered many favorable reviews. (A full list of our films along with clips can be found at www.ManifoldProductions.com.) So, I am a maker of culture, a practitioner, not just a critic or expert.
Mark Paoletta and Michael Pack: Clarence Thomas on Who’s Banning Thoughts
Recent false news reports announced that the State of Florida had banned the iconic novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee from its state-wide curriculum, supposedly indicating Governor Ron DeSantis can’t handle a book on race relations. It was utter nonsense, particularly since it is the Left that has banned this important book and in recent years from public school curriculums, such as in Burbank, California.
A Legacy of Equal Justice – - Jesse Russell
On June 22, 2022, the United States Supreme Court issued its decision for Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, overturning both Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. Although many conservatives and pro-life advocates expected such a result, some on the right were (to put it mildly) pleasantly surprised. The left now dominates the mainstream media and universities, and has even made tremendous inroads into the military, police, and the business world.
Clarence Thomas in His Own Words
“Ultimately, the biggest impediment was the modern-day liberal.” Michael Pack: After all these months of prep, it’s September 10, 1991, the first day of the hearings on your nomination to the Supreme Court, and you go to Senator John Danforth’s office before the hearing starts. A personal look at Justice Clarence Thomas, as he meets the moment of a lifetime
When Justice Clarence Thomas sat down to be interviewed in 2017 for the documentary Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in his own Words, the vicious attacks from the pro-abortion opponents from his titanic confirmation battle were still fresh in his mind.

Clarence Thomas: Expanding The Administrative State Comes At The Expense Of The Constitution
During his tenure on the Supreme Court, Justice Clarence Thomas has questioned the constitutional basis with respect to the growth of the administrative state, whereby a federal agency amasses legislative, executive, and judicial de facto powers. He has raised concerns that this development is contrary to the Founders intentional design in the Constitution to separate the powers of those three branches, and this amassing of power is a threat to our liberty.

Michael Pack: The big driver for the Democrats opposing you was Roe v. Wade. They asked lots about that, and in many ways. Clarence Thomas: I think it was central to a lot. It was certainly the key to the opposition from many of the women’s groups.

Clarence Thomas' principles showcase how he approaches big matters of constitutional law
Clarence Thomas' principles showcase how he approaches big matters of constitutional law The American public often misinterprets Justice Clarence Thomas. He is not a radical, right-wing ideologue. Michael Pack and Mark Paoletta As the Supreme Court’s term draws to close, we all expect some significant decision on abortion and other hot-button issues. As the leader of the originalist wing of the court, Justice Clarence Thomas has come under intense scrutiny and political pressure.

Clarence Thomas in His Own Words
It felt like the mob outside of the jail in To Kill a Mockingbird. They didn’t have their little robes on, but boy, they were sanctimonious, and they had their torches. This interview is adapted from Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words, edited by Michael Pack and Mark Paoletta. (Regnery, 256 pages, $29.99).

So many artists, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), collect even more new music we would call “indie” and talk about what metal comes out. We post music news, song premieres and more all day long. We are updating a weekly playlist some of our favorite tracks right now. Here is a daily recap with a bunch of interesting songs recently released in one place.
The death of democracy
I have witnessed the death of democracy. I don’t mean in a poor country with few democratic institutions and a weak rule of law. I don’t mean via a military coup or under pressure from a hostile power. I mean here in the United States, quietly and as a result of decades of decay — rot from within. In a sense, we all witnessed it.

Beyond Bias: A Window Into American Media Advocacy
Beyond Bias: A Window Into American Media Advocacy | RealClearPolitics
Beyond bias
The media used to be biased, presenting news that favored the political proclivities of those doing the reporting. However, it has moved far beyond that into advocacy and sometimes outright deception. My personal experience with the media is a window into that change and into the current attacks on conservatives. As I began my career as a documentary filmmaker in the late '70s and '80s, already the conservative complaints of bias were loud and also justified. Bias was easy to spot.

Opinion | Mainstream Media Partisanship Comes to Voice of America
The polarization that led to last week’s calamity on Capitol Hill has many underlying causes, but one stood out to me: America’s partisan media. During the last election, it was obvious that nearly every news outlet was in the tank for one candidate or the other. Half the country lived in one reality and the other half in another—with dire consequences.

Will Steve Bannon Help Break The Left’s Monopoly On Documentaries?
Now that there is a documentarian in the White House, perhaps conservative documentaries can earn some respect—and a revival. Stephen K. Bannon, President Trump’s chief strategist and senior counselor, is, among other things, a successful conservative documentary filmmaker, a rare achievement. Over the last decade, Bannon has directed more than a dozen documentaries.
Plant toxin causes biliary atresia in animal model
PHILADELPHIA - A study in this week's Science Translational Medicine is a classic example of how seemingly unlikely collaborators can come together to make surprising discoveries. An international team of gastroenterologists, pediatricians, natural products chemists, and veterinarians, working with zebrafish models and mouse cell cultures have discovered that a chemical found in Australian plants provides insights into the cause of a rare and debilitating disorder affecting newborns.
