Skilled trades face labor shortages as retirements outpace new workers
Skilled trades are essential to the strength and sustainability of the local workforce A technician at Gary’s Body Shop in Cadiz prepares a vehicle for body work. Companies across the United States are struggling to find skilled laborers such as carpenters, mechanics, welders and electricians. Demographic data show nearly half of the skilled trades workforce is over age 55, and fewer than 9% of those ages 19 to 24 are entering the trades.
Drive Better Customer Experiences with Salesforce AI Agents and CDW
Today’s customers have high expectations when engaging with a company. From personalized experiences to zero contact center hold queues, the bar is high when it comes to customer experiences. Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a tool companies can use to help meet these demands. AI began with predictive capabilities, such as fraud detection and forecasts based on historical data. It then moved on to generative AI, known for creating images, content and responses in real time.
Suboptimal environmental conditions prolong phage epidemics in bacterial populations
1 INTRODUCTION Parasites and pathogens, which often impose a strong fitness burden on their host, are the strongest evolutionary force across the living world (Ebert & Hamilton, 1996; Keesing et al., 2010; Thompson, 1998). While the evolution of resistance is a common strategy for hosts to counteract parasitism, the costs of resistance often vary, making it difficult to predict when and how resistance evolves.
Evolution of Microbiota-Host Associations: The Microbe’s Perspective
Highlights A microbial perspective is needed for a full understanding of microbiota–host symbiosis. A biphasic life cycle likely shapes the origin of a microbe’s association with the host. Microbes must thus succeed in the host, the environment, and reciprocal transmission. Symbiosis is driven by microbial fitness integrated across the entire life cycle. A new formalized integrative fitness measure can guide novel research on symbiosis. Microbiota–host associations are ubiquitous in nature.
