The Forgiveness Business
By Michael Smith A Reading from the Gospel of Mark 2:1-12 1 When he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. 2 So many gathered around that there was no longer room for them, not even in front of the door, and he was speaking the word to them. 3 Then some people came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them.

Eagles send message with pair of Class 4 wins
The Grain Valley wrestling team wants respect. That's because it is a storied program that will wrestle at the Class 4 level for the first time in the district and state tournaments. "We are trying to send a message," Grain Valley sophomore 113-pounder Gavin Parks said. "We belong here and we can get stuff done." Message sent. The Eagles proved they could hang with Class 4 teams as they dominated Truman 78-3 and coasted past Blue Springs South 63-12 in Tuesday's tri-dual at home.
Pouncil shines on special teams in 47-3 rout of Smith-Cotton
by Michael Smith Tristin Pouncil said he wanted to prove some doubters wrong before Friday’s Class 5 District 7 matchup with Sedalia Smith-Cotton. It didn’t take him long to do just that. He returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown and also recovered a muffed punt return by the Tigers as the Eagles rolled to a 47-3 victory. “I wanted to prove everyone wrong. I had doubters before the game,” Pouncil said.

Smith: The End
Maybe because this is my story, and I'm hyper-conscious of the inherent navel gazing that will likely accompany that. Maybe because this column, inevitable for the last decade as it might have been, was one I was hoping to shove off for as long as possible. Maybe because this is the end for me and my time with the Carolina Hurricanes. I've been barreling toward this day for weeks, but now it's here. Now it's real. And this is it.

'Chesnee will always remember them': Eagles fall short, but seniors leave mark on program
CHESNEE -- The scoreboard at the Class AA Upper State softball final didn't tell the story Chesnee wanted. A 6-4 loss to Legion Collegiate Academy in Game 3 of the series ended the Eagles' season. Chesnee fell behind 6-2, rallied on Shenandoah Bishop's two-run double in the seventh, but could get no closer. The score didn't go the Eagles' way. But Chesnee believes that something bigger happened on the way to the Upper State series. The 2021 senior class changed the Chesnee softball culture forever.
Team chemistry, senior leadership helps lead Chesnee past Crescent
CHESNEE - Chesnee's march to the AA Upper State softball final required a victory against one of the state's most storied softball programs. The Eagles pulled it off just like they've done everything else this season: together. When Chesnee defeated Crescent 5-4 to win the District 1-AA softball championship the team chemistry those players have been developing for years was on full display.
One undefeated season wasn't enough for Tolton's Brant Whitaker. So he did it again.
INDEPENDENCE — Anyone who sees Tolton senior Brant Whitaker drive down the streets of Columbia can tell that he’s a wrestler. All you have to do is look at his license plate. “I’ve always wanted to be a leg rider,” Whitaker said. “It’s on the license plate of my car.” That’s something Whitaker has done well throughout his high school wrestling career.

In 2021, Stephens once again found herself in the fifth-place match at state in the 132-pound weight division, going against Lebanon’s Quincey Glendenning.
Canes take down Blackhawks 4-3 in a shootout :: WRALSportsFan.com
By Michael Smith, Hurricanes.com reporter Chicago — Good teams find a way to win games, even when they're not at their best. The Carolina Hurricanes won their fifth game in a row with a 4-3 shootout decision against the Chicago Blackhawks, and they'll take the two points, even with the knowledge that they can be better - a lot better. "Today was not a good game for us. We'll just leave it at that. We'll take the win, for sure," head coach Rod Brind'Amour said.

Canes Hungry for More in 2020-21 Season
Win the day. 1-0. Do it right. Earn it. These are a few of the phrases that adorn the walls inside the Carolina Hurricanes locker room at their new practice facility at Wake Competition Center. There's another phrase plastered to the wall above racks of free weights in the gym: Our standard is the standard. Presiding over his first training camp in 2018, Rod Brind'Amour's message was about raising the level of expectation.
Canes Have Blueprint for Goalie Rotation Success

Notebook: Confident Canes Just Keep Winning
DETROIT - A popular refrain for the Carolina Hurricanes this season is that "good teams find a way to win." It's true.
