Cowlin Presents: DJ Steve Lawler

Cowlin Presents: DJ Steve Lawler

xwhymagazine.com — Cowlin Presents: DJ Steve Lawler Highly regarded and highly skilled, Steve Lawler is a man that lives for House music and is globally recognised as one of it's greatest exponents. From his early days involved in organising motorway raves in the 90's to sets at international festival and superclubs, Lawler has been consistent in both his output and his work ethic. Having had his music signed to some of electronic music's best known labels, Lawler has now added Label manager to his list of achievements with his label VIVa MUSiC which was founded in 2006, but this does not stop him from churning out great tracks for house lovers.

A vote less travelled... - XWHY

xwhymagazine.com — A vote less travelled... Those that know me may read the above and wonder if I have lost my mind. Whether all the stress and worry of everyday life have taken their toll and finally resulted in my mental break down. Well... I haven't. In fact I have reached a state of unfathomable clarity in a world of murky politics and bleary eyed cynicism. The country I live in now is not the one that I grew up in, it is not the one I imagined living in, nor is it the one that I want my children to live in.

End Ebola Now: A Crisis We Cannot Ignore - XWHY

xwhymagazine.com — End Ebola Now: A Crisis We Cannot Ignore Exactly eight months ago today, I was gearing up to teach a technology workshop at Girls Empowerment Summit Sierra Leone , a yearly summit that empowers and inspires young girls in Sierra Leone. I was excited to show our girls that there are so many career options out there for them, which many never realised were available for women. Little did I know, these plans would change drastically in the impending months. Ebola struck West Africa with a vengeance - what started as an area that was finally rebuilding itself after brutal civil war was suddenly set back even further.

xwhymagazine.com — Photography: Benjamin Von Wong's Underwater River Ballantine's Presents Benjamin Von Wong's Underwater River In late May,Ballantine's Scotch whisky and 'hyper-real' photographer Benjamin Von Wong journeyed to Tulum, Mexico with a team of 35 to participate in a unique, experimental underwater photographic project. " Benjamin Von Wong's Underwater Riverdetails how Ballantine's and the photographer turned a cenote" in the depths of the Mexican jungle into his latest shoot location. The result; a set of stunning and seemingly impossible underwater images shot deep down above a bed of deadly hydrogen sulphide. Von Wong, manages to create some of the most unreal, real photos you're likely to see.

XWHY Music: Dems - Muscle Memory - XWHY

xwhymagazine.com — XWHY Music: Dems - Muscle Memory After drip feeding us new tracks and visuals over the last two years the South London trio that go by the name of Dems have finally released their debut album "Muscle Memory". The 10 track LP includes well known track "Desire" and "Got No Brains" as well as a rework of one of the first Dems tracks ever recorded "Lioness". There is no easy way to describe the Dems sound or a ready made genre category to accommodate them. Their spacey falsetto vocals and introspective style manages to touch upon emotions that you may never had known you had,if it were not for having listen to their music.

Caboose: The Best Burgers Pulling Into Town - XWHY

xwhymagazine.com — Caboose: The Best Burgers Pulling Into Town is London's latest dining sensation and a huge part of its success is down to the fact it has spun the old dinner party theme on it's head. Situated in Ely's Yard just off of Brick Lane, Caboose has been taking East London's street food scene by storm for the last 2 years with its combination of slow cooked meats from its serving hatch during the day, and its often raucous dinner parties in the cabin in the evening.

xwhymagazine.com — XWHY Style: Raregoods.co interview. Raregoods.co is the latest indie British streetwear brand to come to our attention over here at XWHY Towers. Launched in late 2013 the brand was born out of a friendship between the two co-creaters Alex and Joe who have a history of designing for high street labels. The creates a label in an effort to produce a product that represented themselves, British Music and Culture and Raregoods.co was born. We caught up with Alex, the prettier half (allegedly) of the Raregoods team to chat about past, present and future of Raregoods.co and peruse some of their latest design fresh off the press...

Film Review: Slow West - XWHY

xwhymagazine.com — Film Review: Slow West whis MC Mot ors, if you've not been there, is sort of like a cross between a factory and a circus, and seems as good a venue as any in East London in which to host a film screening. Add pulled pork po' boys and whiskey sours (both heavy on the Jameso n) and you've got a very good venue in which to host a film screening. I arrived late and still managed two whiskey sours, a po' boy and fries, another straight shot of Jameson and a doughnut before sitting down for the film, without so much as breaking a sweat.
