What was your first job as a journalist?

Simultaneously, a college and city newspaper when I was 20.

How is social media changing news?

Oh my. It's much more emotionally driven and opinionated and self control and intellectual humility are struggles or absent.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Being constantly curious, hungry for research, interviewing, listening, learning, examining your assumptions and communicating skillfully.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Email, Text or Phone.

What's your favorite social network?

LinkedIn and Twitter.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Find your passion, be interested in others, be of high character in your work and keep writing, always seeking continuous improvement.
