A WA author has teamed up with the Children’s Book Council of Australia to launch a new initiative called ‘Reading for the Heart and Mind’. The five video series is aimed at promoting the mental health benefits of reading for children to parents, teachers and librarians. Author Josh Langley told 6PR’s Michaela Carr the initiative helps children connect with characters they can relate to.

Eagles coach Adam Simpson has flown back to Perth from Melbourne to be with his sick daughter, ahead of this afternoon's AFL game against the Western Bulldogs. His youngest child became ill over the weekend and last night was admitted to hospital in Perth. Simpson has four children, three girls and a boy. West Coast forwards coach Jaymie Graham will coach the team in its match against the Bulldogs at Docklands Stadium.

Perth man Joseph Da Silva has been missing since April, but that won't stop his mother setting a place for him at the Christmas table this year. Angela Broadley concedes the seat will almost certainly remain empty, but she still holds out hope that he is out there somewhere, safe and well Mr Da Silva's disappearance has baffled police, but he is just one of about 300 people on the State's long-term missing persons list — some of the cases go back as far as 1950.
