1 Introduction Anthropogenic disturbances such as agricultural land use, resource extraction and urbanization are causing a loss of habitat at the global scale, entailing both a net reduction in the total surface of suitable habitats and their fragmentation per se, with increasing distance between patches (Laurance 2014; Newbold et al. 2015; Prakash and Verma 2022).
