1 Introduction Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is a high-value crop grown profitably by Saskatchewan producers; however, chickpea suffers from a variety of production problems, including Ascochyta blight, caused by Ascochyta rabiei (Pass.) Lab. (teleomorph: Didymella rabiei) (Kov.), late maturity, green seed and problems with harvestability. These issues have increased production costs and risk, which has limited chickpea production to the southwest region of Saskatchewan.
