Mike King

Mike is an award-winning business journalist with recognition spanning all major freight, logistics and shipping sectors: Seahorse Maritime Journalist of the Year (2024, 2023), Seahorse Supply Chain Journalist of the Year (2025, 2016), Seahorse News Journalist of the Year (2017, 2013), Seahorse Air Cargo Journalist of the Year (2012), twice runner-up for Seahorse Multimedia Journalist of the Year (2024, 2023), and 2018 International Road Transport Union Journalist of the Year.
Currently based in London after a decade in Asia, Mike grew up in a prominent Liverpool logistics family where he gained hands-on freight operations experience from an early age - skills that would later inform his journalism career and provide unique industry insight.
Today, he is host and executive producer of The Freight Buyers' Club podcast and video channel, the leading global freight media platform covering ocean, air and overland freight markets. The platform reaches 9,000+ monthly podcast listeners (top 5% globally), 5,000 YouTube subscribers, 23,000+ LinkedIn followers, and 4,000+ newsletter subscribers, with 60-75% being freight buying decision-makers.
This follows over two decades in freight media, with career highlights including serving as Asia correspondent for JOC, becoming one of the youngest magazine editors in Lloyd's List history, running the news desk at IFW/Lloyd's Loading List, and creating, launching and hosting The Loadstar Podcast, which he managed from 2021 to 2025.
Beyond freight journalism, Mike has worked extensively with NGOs fighting deforestation and corruption in Indonesia, runs a charity in Nepal, and spent a decade investigating corruption and human rights abuses for a leading commercial risk intelligence company.
An avid sportsman and repeat participant in the World Bog Snorkeling Championships, he also never misses an opportunity to mention he was twice paid to coach football by Bayern Munich.
