Editor's note: The original version of this column was published Dec. 27, 2008. Clark Morman of Fayetteville recently reminded me of the remarkable difference that one person can make by sticking to his guns in the face of denial and ridicule. In that respect, I feel kindred in spirit with Clark's father, William Avery "Abb" Morman of Prescott, a game warden of 28 years who retired in 1994 from a second career as the Nevada County sheriff. Abb died in 2021 at 87.
