‘Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake’ season 2 brings the power of friendship to NY Comic Con

While it may have started as a gender-bending, one-off episode of the original Adventure Time Cartoon Network series, Fionna and Cake kept coming back until the question “what time is it?” can now refer to the heroines in their own streaming show. And the fans at New York Comic Con couldn’t get enough of it as the first episode of the new season dropped at the panel.

The creatives behind Image Comics showcased a strong lineup of continuing titles as well as a brand new ongoing from the veteran team of writer Jeff Lemire and artist Dustin Nguyen, but the future appeared a little murky for the medium in the age of AI. “I don’t know what this is going to look like five, 10, 20 years from now for all of us,” said Marjorie Liu, who is celebrating the 10th anniversary of her series Monstress.

CNN — It may surprise some people unfamiliar with the comic book industry, with its multibillion-dollar movie tie-ins, that it’s been on the verge of collapse multiple times over the decades. Now AI tools are adding new fears of a death knell. From political censorship in the 1950s to a sales crash in the 1990s and the modern era of digital distribution, creators can be understandably hostile to a technology widely viewed as a vehicle for copyright theft.
