The former home of the San Francisco 49ers has been gone for more than a decade, but its history remains a focal point for the local community.

Share ( KRON ) — This year, Pigeon Point — the unmissable beacon off Highway 1 in San Mateo County – kicked off a $16 million restoration project that, once complete, will allow visitors inside for the first time in two decades. KRON4 News took a trip 50 miles south of San Francisco – to see how the repairs are going. Pigeon Point celebrates its 152nd anniversary on Saturday afternoon with special tours, crafts, a book signing, and an update on the restoration process.
