Wrestling produces two All-Americans
UW-Whitewater wrestlers Brayden Peet and Dominik Mallinder earned All-American honors at the 2025 NCAA Division III National Championships, Saturday, March 15 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island. The gold standard
The UW-Whitewater baseball team remains undefeated after eight games. The Warhawks have maintained a No. 1 ranking through three weeks of the season as they approach their home-opener against Saint Mary’s (Minnesota) Wednesday, March 26. Despite falling short to Misericordia University (Pennsylvania) in the 2024 NCAA Division III College World Series Championship, Whitewater entered this season with a No. 1 target on their back along with the pride and pressures that come with it.
Warhawk alum gives back
UW-Whitewater graduate Quint Studer may be one of the most successful alumni of the university, but also one of the most generous. SAAC provides community for all athletes
Parker Sprague, a junior from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has shown his leadership skills on and off the court. Heart health ‘critical’ for student-athletes
According to the National Institute of Health, sudden cardiac death is the leading medical cause of death in athletes with an estimate between one in 40,000 to one in 80,000 incidents per year. At UW-Whitewater, student-athlete heart health is a priority. In July of 2022, Warhawk men’s basketball player Derek Gray died unexpectedly when he collapsed due to a blood clot in his heart at the age of 20.

The UW-Whitewater Men’s Basketball team earned a much needed win against Hope College 90-83 at home Friday, Dec. 6. The Warhawks improved their record to 4-3 and Jameer Barker continued to impress with a 27-point showing. Barker recorded his third game with over 25 points this season, all of which resulted in wins for Whitewater. The Warhawk guard has been a vital part of the program during his tenure, but this season has solidified himself as the number one option for the team.
National title defense on the line
The globally esteemed UW-Whitewater Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team is underway with a brand new season coming off the program’s 14th national championship in 2024. Transfer trend taking over
An evolving landscape of athletics in the NCAA across all divisions has raised questions surrounding the recent spike in transfer portal entrants and what it means for the present and future of collegiate athletics. For UW-Whitewater – a high-level Division III athletics program – the transfer portal has a unique effect on the athletic department with the transfer landscape creating more moving pieces across the country.
Lessons learned from ‘bummer’ season
After being ranked No. 3 by d3football.com in the preseason top 25, the UW-Whitewater football team finished their 2024 season with an underwhelming 6-4 record that left them well out of the playoffs for the first time since 2017. In addition to a week three loss to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, the Warhawks were bested by three WIAC teams: UW-Stout, UW-Platteville and UW-La Crosse.
Men’s soccer team looks toward future
Head coach Tony Guinn and the UW-Whitewater Men’s Soccer team’s season came to a close in the second round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) tournament in a matchup with UW-Eau Claire Friday, Nov. 8. Guinn’s 2024 squad finished with a record of 10-7-4. The record is slightly worse than the Warhawks 2023 record of 13-1-5. “We had difficulty scoring goals,” Guinn said. “That can always come back and haunt you – when you don’t score enough goals.

UW-Whitewater football defensive lineman Matt Burba has excelled in both athletics and academics during his time with the football program. With the 2024 presidential election right around the corner, UW-Whitewater’s College Republicans and College Democrats clubs organized visits from Wisconsin Senators Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin. For most Warhawks, this will be the first presidential election in which they are able to cast a vote, making it important for students to tune in. Sen. Baldwin visited Whitewater’s campus on Tuesday, Oct. 1 and was accompanied by Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth.
Soccer takes advantage of international enrollment
The UW-Whitewater men’s soccer team currently holds four international players on its roster. The team’s head coach Tony Guinn explained how he thinks more international enrollment across the board at the university could significantly bolster athletics and provide financial relief for UW-Whitewater as well as its surrounding community. Two of UW-Whitewater’s most decorated track and field stars competed with hopes of earning a spot at the Olympic trials this summer. Whitewater turnover trouble
The No. 3 UW-Whitewater football team limps into their bye-week after a 35-17 loss to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders. The Crusaders forced eight Whitewater turnovers, their ability to capitalize on these opportunities accounted for 28 of their 35 total points.
Remembering a Warhawk great
At the age of 36, former Whitewater football and basketball star Chris Davis Sr. passed away on Aug. 31. Davis left an indelible mark on the university, Warhawk athletics, and made lasting contributions to the Madison area after college. He will be missed and remembered by coaches, teammates, the entire Whitewater community, and many others.
More expected from men’s soccer
After the UW-Whitewater men’s soccer team’s first three games of the season, the Warhawks are out-scoring opponents 14-2 with an overall record of 2-0-1 as of press time on Sunday, Sept. 8. While it may seem like a strong start to the season, head coach Tony Guinn said this team is capable of bigger and better. “I am extremely disappointed that we gave up a goal,” Guinn said. “At our school we have always had a strong culture of not giving up goals.
Players using platform for a purpose
Division III quarterbacks across the country took this offseason to make a difference. Alma College’s junior quarterback Carter St. John established QBs vs Cancer, Inc, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization designed for quarterbacks to use their platforms as a way to raise money for cancer organizations. The idea for the organization, St. John said, first came to him during the Alma CARES game last October.
