Fox Corp.'s planned $22 billion purchase of Roku Inc. would pair Fox's live sports, news and entertainment content with Roku's reach across smart TVs and streaming devices. The 10-quarter streak of declining global smartphone shipments was finally broken in the fourth quarter of 2023 with a 9% year-on-year growth, as emerging markets showed signs of recovery at the tail end of the year. While the year ended on a high note, much of 2023 saw smartphone demand stymied by macroeconomic challenges that curbed discretionary spending.

Smart TV shipments decreased 8.7% in 2022 as challenging global macroeconomic conditions reduced demand for new TV sets. Although inflation was already cooling in many markets as of July 2023, the cost of essential goods remains high and continues to dampen discretionary spending by consumers.
