Lower electric rates took effect July 1 Jul 5, 2023Jul 5, 2023 11:53 am GMT 1 view Electricity rates paid by the majority of customers of Eversource and United Illuminating are about to drop dramatically, thanks in part to improved supplies of natural gas. Starting Saturday and continuing through Dec. 31, standard service offer customers of The United Illuminating Co. and Eversource Energy will see the per-kilowatt hour charges reduced on the energy supply portion of their monthly bills.
How much will you pay to keep the lights on?
If there's any good news about the electricity rate shock that starts next week, it's that the jolt might not be quite as bad as the headlines would appear. Scant comfort, I know. As of Jan. 1, most of us will have to pay a lot more for at least the next six months to keep the lights on, the milk cold and our dawn-to-dusk electronics humming. Exactly how much more?
