Milliswa Vilane’s Biography

Milliswa Vilane, also known as Milli Mandela, is a writer, publicist, and marketing creative from Eswatini whose work bridges African hip hop, lifestyle, and culture. A passionate storyteller and strategist, she uses her words to amplify Eswatini’s creative voices while connecting them with broader international audiences.

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing (Cum Laude) from the University of Eswatini and a Music Business Management Certificate from Music in Africa. Milliswa brings a unique blend of artistry and business acumen to her work in communications, culture, and brand building.

As a journalist and cultural commentator, she has written for Hip Hop Africa (with over 57 published articles), SA Hip Hop Reloaded, WordIs (2023), and ColorBloc Magazine, as well as her own column, The Stance, in the Eswatini Observer. She has also contributed artist features, reviews, and event write-ups that spotlight the African music landscape.

Milliswa’s contributions extend beyond the page. She co-hosted hip hop shows on EBIS Radio, was a panelist at the MTN Bushfire “Bring Your Fire” Live Dialogues, and has appeared on multiple music podcasts, including TFE Network (Eswatini). In PR and marketing, she has worked with artists such as Oriiginelle, Trent Nicks, Ima Crystals, and Stickx, curating rollouts, strategies, and communications that amplify their reach. She is also the founder of 268 Gems, a platform dedicated to showcasing Eswatini’s talent to the world.

Her work has earned her recognition as one of Eswatini’s cultural voices to watch. She was a 2023 nominee for Best Young Writer at the Eswatini Writers Awards, featured in HYPE Magazine’s Women in Hip Hop (2023), named among CavTheCulture’s Top 10 Eswatini Creatives (2023), and profiled on the Eswatini Observer creatives cover (2024).

At the heart of her journey is a clear vision: to strengthen the link between creativity and business in Africa’s entertainment industry, ensuring artists have the tools, strategies, and platforms they need to thrive.
