Bedrock-soil geochemistry dominates free-living nitrogen fixation in soils but not in litter via interspecific microbial associations
Abstract Free-living nitrogen fixation is an important pathway for nitrogen inputs into soil and litter ecosystems. Here we compared free-living nitrogen fixation in forest soils and litter layers between limestone and clastic rock. We found that free-living nitrogen fixation activity is largest in litter followed by limestone soils and lowest in clastic rock soils.

The hidden role of rhizospheric viruses in promoting nitrogen fixation in soils
Abstract Biological nitrogen fixation is a cornerstone of terrestrial nitrogen cycling, traditionally attributed to bacterial nitrogenase activity. However, the potential contribution of rhizospheric viruses remains largely unexplored. Here, we reveal the global distribution of nitrogen-fixing genes, with widespread detection of nifA, nifL, nifU, and nifH in both bacteria and viruses, and identify nifU as a viral auxiliary metabolic gene (AMG).

1. Introduction The exploitation of marine resources has been ongoing for more than seventy years, gradually depleting shallow-water reserves [1]. Since the 1980s, exploration efforts have shifted toward deep-water regions, leading to the development of major oil fields in Brazil, the North Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico [2,3].

Evaluation on wind and non-isothermal environment in the street canyon with and without curved arm awning
Abstract Extreme heat waves make curved arm awnings a popular flexible shading technique in street canyons. Yet, quantitative studies on the effects of awnings’ locations are sparse. This research simulates the wind and thermal environments in a street canyon with and without awnings, examining the impacts of varying awning positions and different values of transmissivities. Modifications have been assessed on microclimatic parameters as wind velocity around the awnings.

Ammonia‐oxidizing bacteria rather than ammonia‐oxidizing archaea dominates soil nitrification during vegetation restoration in karst areas
Soil nitrification, driven by ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) and ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB), is a crucial process in maintaining the soil nitrogen (N) balance. However, the influence of AOA and AOB on soil gross nitrification rates (GNR) in response to vegetation restoration remains unclear, particularly in karst regions. In this study, we investigated soil GNR and the abundance, diversity, and community composition of AOA and AOB across after vegetation restoration.

4.1. Comparison of the Evaluation Cases The assessment of corrosion cluster defects consisting of non-coincidental axial projection defects was the most challenging evaluation process. This specific type of colony corrosion was chosen for the comparative analysis between the two assessment methods. 4.1.1. Colony Corrosion Consisting of Defects with the Same Failure Pressure Chouchaoui conducted burst tests on axially aligned defects composed of the same defects [26].
Dynamic monitoring of serum CEA and CA19-9 predicts the prognosis of postoperative stage II colon cancer
We sought to investigate the prognostic significance of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) dynamics for stage II colon cancer patients undergoing radical resection. This study retrospectively analyzed 1517 stage II colon cancer patients admitted to the Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital from January 2011 to December 2016. To observe the relationship between tumor markers dynamic monitoring and survival, we calculated cut-off values for ΔCEA and ΔCA19-9.

Benzo[a]pyrene stress impacts adaptive strategies and ecological functions of earthworm intestinal viromes - The ISME Journal
Abstract The earthworm gut virome influences the structure and function of the gut microbiome, which in turn influences worm health and ecological functions. However, despite its ecological and soil quality implications, it remains elusive how earthworm intestinal phages respond to different environmental stress, such as soil pollution.
