Mortgage rates are up from yesterday and remain under 7.00%. Today’s national average on a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is 6.85%, according to Bankrate. If you choose a 15-year fixed-rate mortgage, the average rate is 6.22%. However, at least one source now shows 30-year mortgage rates above 7% for the first time in over a year. According to Mortgage News Daily, the average 30-year rate rose to 7.07% on Thursday, a 10-basis-point increase from the day before.

However, to get the highest annual percentage yield (APY), you need to agree to keep your money with the financial institution for a set time period. Right now, the best rates are on short-term CDs. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) reports that the average rate on a 12-month CD is 1.71%. However, the average for the top high-yield CDs is 4.47%, according to DepositAccounts.com.
