DEFINITIONS DHS/DHS: deoxyhypusine synthase enzyme/gene. An essential enzyme/gene of eukaryotic primary metabolism that has been characterized in vitro and/or genetically as having a high level of DHS activity. DHS enzymes also have a low level of HSS activity. DHS function/activity: aminobutylation of an alanine of the eIF5A precursor protein to deoxyhypusine. DHS-like gene: an ortholog of a functionally characterized DHS, but its function has not been characterized.
