Introduction Fibroblasts exhibit organ-specific gene signature (Forte et al., 2022) and can carry out tissue-/organ-specific function despite sharing similar properties and responding to similar extracellular stimuli. They are also the major producers of extracellular matrix proteins (ECMPs). Reciprocally their behaviour is heavily influenced by the posttranslational modifications of the ECMPs (Adams, 2023).
