Mohammad Jamil Khan’s Biography

I have been a journalist since 2009 and currently serve as the Head of the Crime Desk at The Daily Star. My reporting focuses on security, human rights, human trafficking, terrorism, and cross-border crime. I began my journalism career as a university correspondent for The Independent before joining the Dhaka Tribune as a Staff Correspondent.

Since January 1, 2017, I have been reporting for The Daily Star.

I hold an MSc in Psychology from Jagannath University and a Diploma in Journalism from the Press Institute Bangladesh. Over the years, my investigative work has earned several national awards.

On May 1, 2025, I received an award in the print media category from Nobel laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government, for reporting on labour rights.

In 2019, I received the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Award for the best investigative report on corruption. I have also been recognised by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and received an award from USAID and SoMaSHTe for reporting on preventing extremism.

Additionally, I have been honoured by the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) for investigative reports on cybercrime, narcotics smuggling, militancy, and human trafficking.

The Daily Star named me “Reporter of the Year 2019” and “Best Investigative Reporter 2018.”
