Mohammed Zonaid

I am a freelance, award-winning Rohingya journalist, documentary photographer, and field fixer based in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, specializing in conflict, humanitarian, and human rights reporting on the Rohingya crisis and the Rakhine conflict. Reporting from within the community, I bring local access, linguistic fluency, and editorial reliability to complex and underreported stories. I work in English and Burmese and speak Rohingya, Burmese, Bangla, Rakhine, Hindi and English.

I regularly contribute reported features, investigations, news analysis, and documentary photography to international and regional media outlets. I also support global journalists as a trusted fixer and interpreter, providing story development, access facilitation, fact-checking, interviews, logistics, and cultural guidance. I am the founder of the Rohingya Media Agency, focused on producing Rohingya-centered, community-led, in-depth journalism.

My work has received international recognition, including being part of the team honored with a 2025 SOPA Award, and my photography has been recognized for its strong narrative, ethical approach, and visual impact.

In addition to reporting, I am committed to capacity building and ethical journalism. I train Rohingya youth in reporting, photography, and filmmaking, advocate for the professional recognition and fair treatment of refugee journalists, and bring experience in teaching and humanitarian programming.
