A solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is an electrochemical device that uses a spontaneous thermodynamic reaction (ΔG0 < 0) to convert the chemical energy contained in a fuel, such as hydrogen or natural gas, into electrical energy and heat with high efficiency and low environmental impact. These devices are characterized by working at high temperatures (around 1000 °C), and all the constituents are metal oxides.
