Descriptive Statistics Table 1 provides summary statistics for the four groups of food insecurity measures plus the overall index. Almost half of the people indicate being unable to buy all the food wanted, another 25% of the respondents visited the grocery store more than a week ago while a similar proportion (24%) had enough food for up to 3 days. In our sample, about 50% of households reported having a more severe form of food insufficiency.

In May, this fact was raised by Michigan’s former solicitor general and renowned Supreme Court attorney, John Bursch.
