Man found shot, dead outside abandoned Orange County house, deputies say

A man was found dead Thursday morning after deputies say he was shot outside an abandoned house in Orange County. The man was identified as 28-year-old Anthony McCall Nixon, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. WFTV-Channel 9 reports Nixon is the son of local community activist Charlotte Davis.

FHP: Driver dead after Winter Garden crash

Troopers say a driver is dead after a crash in the southbound lanes of State Road 429 in Winter Garden. The driver’s 2009 Mazda Tribute SUV struck a guardrail and overturned near mile marker 21 around 3:12 p.m., according to Lt. Tara Crescenzi, a spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Crescenzi said a roadblock is in place for the southbound outside lane on S.R. 429 as troopers investigate the crash. This story is developing. Longwood jewelry store victim of major heist, owner says

A Longwood jewelry store was robbed early Monday morning of an estimated $400,000 worth of merchandise, according to the store’s owner. The Longwood Police Department hasan “open and active investigation” into the incident at Certified Jewelry Design off St. Laurent Street, said Lt. Bradley Tollas, a spokesperson for the agency. A five-page report released by LPD was mostly redacted.
