Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements of ? crystals of trans-(S)-1 were performed in the temperature range of 60–160?°C at a rate of 10?°C?min?1 with heating and then cooling (Fig. 2a). On heating, the DSC curve showed an endothermic peak at 145.2?°C. On subsequent cooling, the DSC curve had an exothermic peak at 143.0?°C, showing the small thermal hysteresis of 2.2?°C. The enthalpies at these endothermic and exothermic peaks were small, 1.31 and ?1.29?kJ?mol?1, respectively.
