It keeps the public informed as news is happening and it is including the audience in the conversation.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To be very tired most of the time.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

Any hashtag involving reality TV or celebrities is guaranteed to be funny, but not for the right reasons.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Email, Twitter or phone

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

A notebook and pen are good places to start. Besides these tools, our newspaper's website and social media are good tools as well.

What's your favorite social network?

Any social network site is great, but you can't go wrong with Twitter.

Why did you become a journalist?

I wanted a job that entailed something different every day, as well as wanting to be a writer.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

A story I worked on about how teachers learned about the poverty in their classrooms by reenacting life in poverty during a simulation.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Don't stop being curious.
