What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a Digital Producer at KERO-TV in Bakersfield, CA.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Only once. It was out of style by the time I was a child.

How is social media changing news?

It's instant and it shows that people are not going to wait for the 5:00 news for their news.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

A tie between Kent Brockman and Peter Parker.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means to inform the community and be the voice of the voiceless.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I prefer it if they can send me a pitch through email.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Im currently looking for a new job so I can't say.

What's your favorite social network?

Hard to choose.

Oprah

Why did you become a journalist?

I grew up watching English and Spanish news in Los Angeles. I was really fascinated by that and I knew that would be my goal.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I did not but I did write for my community college and university newspapers for a time.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

That is tough since I had so many great stories I broke with my fellow colleagues. I would say anything involving teamwork.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

To never give up on your dreams despite what some people may say. Also, PLEASE network!

When's the best time to pitch you?

Between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. PT.

Too many to name.

I can't recall at this time.

What's your favorite drink?

Water, Sprite, Any lemonade drinks like Strawberry Lemonade

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Pre-Covid: Outside and seeing new places. Now: At home

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

LA Times, NY Times, Buzzfeed, Complex, ABC, NBC, and CNN just to name a few.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

The fact that we are too serious all the time. Which is not all that true.
