Back in 2020, I spent a few weeks compiling together an extended list of Pauper staples for Pauper players to go through. This was due to a frequent question I would see asked in Pauper circles by players just starting to explore the format: "does anyone have a list of Pauper staples?" Players would frequently be pointed to MTGGoldfish's staples page or pull up Scryfall and search for every Pauper legal common, however neither of those is necessarily a perfect option.

For its time in Standard, Questing Beast was one of the format's defining curve toppers. Four mana for a 4/4 haste kills your opponent very quickly, either after playing a 2- and 3-drop, or just killing some stuff along the way. While Questing Beast will always be remembered for being a novel-long collection of rules text, 90% of the time "haste" and "4/4" was plenty to get the job done.
