19. Aerogels Technical Applications Aerogel has the most diverse applications in all technical and functional applications because of its unique physical and chemical properties (Figure 24). In the beginning, aerogel was discovered as spacesuit fabrication material for NASA projects. It can bear extreme temperatures and weather parameters and show a wispy appearance [153,154].
