The Cannabinoid-2 receptor (CB2R) is associated with the immune system and is overexpressed under different conditions like neuroinflammation. It is primarily located on microglia. PET imaging of the CB2R has been difficult and unsuccessful due to unavailability of highly specific, metabolically stable and least radiometabolite-creating radiotracers. This study sought to assess whether a more specific, deuterated PET radioligand could effectively image and quantify CB2Rs in rat and monkey brains.
