Eco-Spirituality and Synodality Today
Eco-Spirituality challenges us to cultivate Maha Prajna or 'Great Awareness' and Maha Karuna or 'Great Compassion,' the greatest virtues in nearly all religious traditions. These virtues challenge us to suffer with, and feel another's suffering so deeply that we are moved to alleviate it. These virtues tie us to humanity, link us with the divine, and make us responsible to and for one another. It implies and expects action. Compassion alone is not enough.
Pain made me aware I wasn't being kind to my body
On Aug. 28, 2025, I suddenly began experiencing pain in my right hand, which has lymphedema. By afternoon, the pain had intensified to the point that I could not use my hand at all. I panicked — not at the thought of dying or paralysis, but because I was scheduled to give a talk to a secular group on Aug. 30. I wanted to keep my commitment. I applied Dukh Daba-v Lep, a pain relief ointment, with someone's help as I was alone in the community that day.
Educate a Woman, Transform a World
Education must prepare girls not only for employment, but for leadership, ethical discernment, and social responsibility. (Photo: Facebook: Educate Girls) On March 8, the world celebrates International Women’s Day, a day that recognizes the achievements of women while also acknowledging the injustices they continue to endure. It is a day of gratitude, but also of reckoning. A woman is indeed a paradox.
Beginning with Myself
Seeing the bloodshed, broken lives, and repeated failures of peace in many parts of the world, this Lenten season I felt a strong need to begin with myself. If the world is to change, I must first be willing to change. Change is part of life. True transformation begins within — in the quiet and honest work of examining one’s own heart. It is not only about outward adjustments, but about looking inward, facing fears, letting go of unhealthy patterns, and recognizing both weaknesses and strengths.
I see Christ's face all around me in those who suffer from chaos of climate change
When I know God in the core and fibre of my being, my inner calling compels me to emulate the Creator — his values, characteristics, teachings and more. Knowing God makes me want to transform the systems that allow suffering to persist. Climate change and the resulting chaos are the new normal that seem here to stay.

By practicing and living with intention an “ecological spirituality,” and by exploring our sacred humanity, may we, as co-creators, forge a new era of peace in this “Great Cathedral of Creation,” renewing our human participation in the “Grand Liturgy of the Universe.”
St Madeleine Sophie Barat -Inspiration for today’s challenges
By Mudita Menona Sodder Mumbai, May 13, 2025: On May 24, 1925, Pope Pius XI declared Madeleine Sophie Barat a saint of the Catholic Church. This momentous occasion marked the culmination of a long process of recognizing the extraordinary life and profound impact of the Foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart. A fire in the town of Joigny, in France, led to St Madeleine Sophie Barat’s premature birth on December 12, 1779.
Easter is an invitation to live with courage and love
"Don't cry for me when I die; rejoice, for I have lived my whole life for that one moment of death, when I know I will be in the bosom of God the father." These were words often repeated by my father to us five siblings and to my mother. I was deeply attached to my parents. Leaving home to join the convent was thus a significant personal struggle. Fortunately, my convent was not far from home.
Already raised with Christ
By Mudita Menona Sodder Mumbai, April 7, 2025: Christ saved all of us once and for all. Let us not be afraid to die, but be afraid to live for we are called to live the Gospel values and be the walkie-talkie Jesus today. To be a true disciple of Jesus is a big challenge, but when we surrender to His Holy will and live a Christo-centric life, it is possible, a cake-walk in reality, because we only have to take the first step. God does the rest.
Becoming the fire to transform religious life today
This is a time in religious life rich with potential for transformation. We need to hold on to our hope that Resurrection is real and ongoing. How can we plumb ever more deeply into what our tradition teaches us about eternal life? How do we truly live in communion with all those who have gone before us, all who are now on this earth with us, and all who will come after us? And how do we allow this communion to assist us, as we imagine religious life for the future?
Becoming the fire to transform religious life today
(Unsplash/Bunyamin Gorunmez) Editor's note: "Evolving Religious Life," a new series from Global Sisters Report, is exploring how Catholic sisters are adapting to the realities of congregations in transition and new forms of religious life. While we write often about these trends, this particular series will focus more closely on sisters' hopes for the future. This is a time in religious life rich with potential for transformation.
San Joao is a forgiving and cleansing feast Original
Revelling in the abundance of nature after the sweltering heat of summer — the fire element i.e., the , the longest day and shortest night — Goans travel into the bold adventures of the rainy season by celebrating the feast of St. John the Baptist or San Joao on June 24 every year. Though this feast is observed throughout the Catholic world, exactly three months after the Annunciation and six months before Jesus' birth on Dec.
Unleash feminine wisdom on International Women's Day Original
Gender inequality stymies progress. The future is with women. Unless women's health, education, dignity and liberation are assured, the progress of any society will be futile. Women constitute one half of humanity. To call women the weaker sex is libel. Women have greater intuition, are more self-sacrificing, have greater powers of endurance and greater courage. They have the innate ability of making a more effective appeal to any heart.
Christmas in the ecozoic era
We live in the toughest, most challenging times in human history, and our humanity is studiously on the wane. With the collapse of the global industrialized civilization, speaking the unvarnished truth, we all need to release the inner gorilla; and hunger for wholeness. In today's age of the image, scarred by wars, climate change and religious fanaticism, embracing struggle and walking with hope is the need of the hour. Ecology is the new theology today, and theology is all about relationships.
Alengaden: Rare diamond with rough edges
By Mudita Menona Sodder Mumbai, March 30, 2023: Father Varghese Alengaden shocked many with his untimely and unexpected death on March 26. Many, including me, had last met him on February 1, at the ninth Global Peace Convention at Porbandar. Parul Jain from Udaipur said, “It is really very unbelievable news that Fr Alengaden is no longer in this world.” He was indeed a rare diamond with rough edges.

We asked this month's panel to share their congregations' customs around Christmas and New Year with the following question: Does your congregation have any special or unusual favorite Christmas customs or New Year traditions? This month's panelists shared stories from their communities in Canada, Croatia, India, Kenya, Lesotho, Mexico, Ukraine, the United States and Vietnam, not only for Christmas but for the Lunar New Year.
'There are angels watching over us'
With repatriation flights now coming into the country, there is a lot of trepidation about quarantine measures in India. People are fearful about their experience on landing. On one hand, there is a great deal of relief on reaching home, on the other, there is wariness about what the on-ground situation will bring. I am an evacuee, a repatriate who flew into Mumbai from Chicago on May 13, 2020. We are hearing stories about problems and challenges during and after evacuation.
