2021 - Investigative Journalism

I was announced the winner on Sunday at the virtual ceremony to mark the 57th birthday of Otufodunrin, an accomplished journalist and media career development specialist. The judge’s report for the award stated that the story by Muhammad Auwal Ibrahim on “How Nigerian State Governments Poorly Interacted with Citizens via Emails During COVID-19 Pandemic, Despite ICT Advancement” addressed a critical issue of public interest. “Ibrahim’s winning piece looks at how the Nigerian government, in the face of the global pandemic, interacted poorly with citizens electronically despite numerous announcements and publications that the government has put in place to address people’s concerns and inquiries during the pandemic. “The creativeness and uniqueness of the story takes it ahead of other nominees who, to their best, also touched on challenges and failings by the government in their primary assignment. “The story’s depth exposes government at all level continuous lack of understanding of the advancement of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in ordinary citizens’ day-to-day lives,” the judges stated. The Lekan Otufodunrin Student Journalists Award is for outstanding student journalists in the country initiated by two of his former junior colleagues at The Nation, Shehu Olayinka and Late Yinka Akintunde.

The award is organized by the Union of Campus Journalism, University of Ibadan with support from The International Centre for Investigatve Reporting (ICIR) and National Union of Campus Journalists.

2021 - ICTs And Telecommunications

The West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards (WAMECA) is an initiative by the Media Foundation for West Africa to promote media excellence in the sub-region. WAMECA is a two-part event: a Conference and an Awards ceremony for journalists. Out of 711 entries from 14 West African countries, I made it to the 21 list of awardees from five (5) countries. In 2021, I became the youngest journalist ever to be honoured with the prestigious WAMECA award since its inception in 2017. I was not only thrilled to break this record but also to be included among PhD, masters, and bachelor degrees' holders from various West African countries. Moreover, I competed with a visiting scholar from the University of Oxford in the same category, which added to my excitement.

2020 - Gender

Youths Digest Campus Journalism Awards is an event organized in collaboration with Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) to celebrate, honour and reward outstanding student-journalists with best stories on their campuses and the society at large. My entry on gender issue made it to the final 30 selected stories out of the over 250 submissions.

2021 - Photo Journalist

Youths Digest Campus Journalism Awards is an event organized in collaboration with Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) to celebrate, honour and reward outstanding student-journalists with best stories on their campuses and the society at large. My entry on climate issue funded by CJID formerly Premium Times Centre for Investigatve Journalism (PTCIJ) made it to the 30 shortlisted stories out of the over 250 submissions and ultimately 15 winning entries.
