Serum levels of components of the classical complement pathway associate with SLE disease activity and anti-dsDNA antibodies. In contrast, while the lectin pathway is a potent complement activation pathway, its role in SLE is poorly characterised. Circulating lectin pathway components associate with specific SLE manifestations in a manner that is non-overlapping with the classical complement pathway.
