Discussion In this qualitative study, we have identified that the diversity of underserved groups does not seem to be currently routinely considered in EPCTs, but it is always viewed as relevant. The main benefit of including diverse populations in EPCTs is the identification of early signals of harms and efficacy in diverse populations, including underserved subpopulations, and providing equitable opportunities for patients.

Detailed of all analysis will be described in an open-access and prespecified SAP to be developed and signed off before accessing unblinded data. The primary analysis will be an intention to treat, including all eligible participants randomised with informed consent. Baseline data will be summarised at the interim and final analyses by treatment group. The absolute difference in hospitalisation rates between arms is the primary summary measure of the treatment effect.

The ACE checklist Tables 2 and 3 are checklists for the main report and abstract, respectively. Only new and modified items are discussed in this E&E document, as well as six items that retain the CONSORT 201034 wording but require clarification for certain ADs (box 4). Authors should download and complete appendix A to accompany a manuscript during journal submission.
