McGonagles, Dublin: An icon of a gloriously shabby golden age
McGonagles, Dublin (image: Patrick Brocklebank from his book Where The Streets Have 2 Names) It’s May 1988 and I’m in a small, run-down, sweaty dive in Dublin with about 500 other unusually excited music fans. Public Enemy, the biggest Hip-Hop band on the planet are about to take to the stage. A month later they will release their era-defining Nation of Millions album and they are at the very peak of their powers. It’s an extraordinary moment.
Lend Us Your Ear! The Blue Jay Listening Room
When Cara Burky set out to bring her vision for a music venue to life, she had a specific idea in mind. Her goal was to create an intimate space that catered to the consummate music lover and gave music makers a home to share their art without the chatter and restless energy of a bar crowd. The Blue Jay Listening Room makes space for the stories and inspirations behind the music for people who really want to hear it. Some shows are ticketed events; others require a cover at the door.

Cody Webb: An Artist You Should Know Comes to The Ritz
Read about the other musicians in the “Artist You Should Know” series. Breaking into country music is not unlike taming a wild horse. It takes discipline, commitment and a whole lot of heart. As part of the new crop of young emerging artists in Nashville, Post to Post Links II error: No link found for term slug "Cody Webb" has it all. Billed as “an artist you should know,” Webb performs May 12 at the Ritz Theatre (www.ritzjacksonville.org).

Drizzle cooled - Avett Brothers delight amphitheatre crowd
The pre-show applause was instantly met with energetic music by the Avett Brothers as they took the St. Augustine Ampitheatre stage. The Avett Brothers are musicians that sound even better live than their fine-tuned songs on the radio. Ask anyone who went, and they will probably say their experience was also better than they could have imagined. The rain fell before the start of the show, prompting everyone to their seats to take cover.
Not Just Another Festival, Voodoo Is The Music Ritual
I don’t know about you, but for me Halloween is always such a fun and exciting time of year. Fall is in the air, there are pumpkin patches and carving contests, costume parties, and tricks and of course treats! All of the excitement and mystery that October holds is thrilling. However, there are those of us who want more than the Monster Mash or those cheesy Halloween screams playing through our speakers.
“Paint the Park Purple” The Purple Xperience at Thrasher-Horne
Prince would be pleased with the tribute from the Purple Xperience. Led by the immensely talented Marshall Charloff, the five-piece group mesmerized the audience at the Thrasher-Horne Center in Orange Park on Sept. 30th for nearly two hours. It was one incredible night. The Purple Xperience created a sound that will transport you back to 1984. Marshall channeled Prince with breathtaking moves and a striking voice. He was able to effortlessly nail the high pitch notes.
