1 Introduction The Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation, introduced by Boussinesq [1] in 1877 as a model for long waves propagating on a shallow water surface, is given by (1.1) represents a real-valued function, and . Boussinesq's primary aim was to derive an equation with a smooth traveling wave solution, inspired by the wave observed in 1834 by Scott Russell [ 2]. One can immediately check that the KdV equation indeed admits such traveling wave solutions, known as solitons.
