The RNLI said it had struggled to deploy lifeboat at busy periods [RNLI] Beach lovers are being urged to show more consideration after the RNLI said its teams have been delayed and even blocked from treating people. The charity said they were met with "verbal abuse and confrontational behaviour" by members of the public in Cullercoats, near Tynemouth, over the bank holiday weekend.

Guided walk demonstrates sight loss obstacles

Council officials wearing glasses simulating sight impairments have walked through a busy city centre to experience the danger of pavement obstacles. Newcastle City Council staff were guided from the civic centre by volunteers from the Tyne and Wear Sight Loss Council (SLC). The charity said cafe seating, advertising boards and discarded e-scooters could cause trips and injuries. SLC engagement manager Jack Moffat said the council had "showed a willingness to work on the issues".

Bookable bus service launched for remote areas

Durham County Council says it hopes Link2Work will give people more access to bus travel [Durham County Council ] A bookable bus service has started to help people get to work, plugging a gap where local services are not available. Durham County Council has launched Link2work which allows passengers to schedule journeys to suit their needs. Journeys can be booked up to 14 days in advance, and up to 17:00 BST the day before travelling, using a 24/7 phone line.
