Mythili Sampathkumar’s Biography

I am freelance journalist and writer based in New York City. Before becoming a wordsmith, I had a career in international trade, with a focus on import/export controls. It was challenging but handing in my office keys for a press pass feels better.

My focus as a reporter/blogger has been on the United Nations, international development, climate change, and international trade news with some women's rights and education-related stories thrown in the mix.

Welcome to the next Renaissance “We’d love a byline in Big Media. But we’ll also be everything from baristas, booksellers, Etsy artists, and TikTok news creators to dog walkers, ice cream scoopers, copywriters, and marketers.” -elcome-to-the-next-enaissance The full-time freelance reporter who makes a living off of bylines alone has long been dead, but I regret to inform you of the passing of the full-time journalist as well.

What was your first job as a journalist?

Writing daily updates for an international trade news wire service.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. I even know how to change the ribbon.

How is social media changing news?

Verify. And then, double-check. Unless it's your opinion, then spout off all you want - and still have someone check the facts
