Reaction of organic phosphates with oxides: Effects on pH, the equation used to describe the reaction, and on desorption
When ions react with a variable-charge surface, the charge on the ion causes feedback effects. Changes in both the charge on the surface and the pH affect the shape of the sorption curves. Organic phosphates and inorganic P form a sequence; the smaller the ion, the greater the effect. Adsorption is followed by diffusive penetration. Again, the smaller the ion, the greater the effect. We think penetration after adsorption helps explain the persistence of organic phosphates in soil.
