Eighty years ago on 11 April 1945, American soldiers marched into Buchenwald concentration camp and liberated the people they found there, including 14-year-old Joe Szwarcberg. Joe had endured years of starvation and forced labour before ultimately rebuilding a new life in Australia alongside other young survivors. Together they became known as the Buchenwald Boys.

She was renowned for her work as a scientist, and her study of chimps in the forests of Gombe made us rethink what it means to be human, and our relationship with other species.
