St. Petersburg's anti-homeless policies questioned after a woman is run over by a garbage truck

Candice Roberts, 49, was sleeping in an alleyway in St. Petersburg when she was struck and killed by a garbage truck in the early hours of Saturday. The driver, Nathan D. Brown, was retrieving a dumpster off Third Street North, behind Ruby's Elixir, when his vehicle struck Roberts, court records show. Brown was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death. He has since posted bond, which was set at $50,000. He pleaded not guilty.

Mahjong is making its mark in Tampa

On a Monday evening, the sound of Mahjong tiles clacking against each other echoes within the concrete walls of The Commodore in Ybor City. Players sit four to a table, chatting and shuffling the tiles together for the start of a new game. “This is the part I’ve been waiting for,” one player said. Jacob Chang (left), founder of Red Eye Mahjong, said the group first started as a game night with his friends.

La policía de Tampa revisa su política de persecución tras el choque mortal en Ybor

Tras el choque mortal en Ybor City el otoño pasado, el Departamento de Policía de Tampa (TPD, por sus siglas en inglés) revisó sus políticas sobre persecuciones de vehículos. Una revisión interna determinó que la policía de Tampa no solicitó a la Patrulla de Autopistas de Florida, una agencia estatal, que persiguiera al conductor antes de que éste chocara contra un club nocturno en la Séptima Avenida, lo que causó la muerte de cuatro personas y dejó 13 heridos.
