What Goes On Behind the Walls of Garner Correctional Institution
How did Raymar Thompson die at age 29? Garner Correctional Institution and the CT Department of Correction (DOC) know, but they aren’t telling. And apparently our laws and policies allow them to keep it a secret—both from his mother and from we the people. Mr. Thompson was incarcerated at Garner, which specializes in locking up prisoners with mental health issues.
Dare to Take Up Space (By One Who Showed Up)
As someone who cares deeply about what happens to people who are locked away behind Connecticut’s prison walls, I correspond with a great many incarcerated people. Through these interactions, it’s my ongoing honor and privilege to witness the profound redemptive journey that so many of my correspondents are undertaking—including those who are part of The Live! Archive.
'Prison is Not a Secret Society'
This opinion piece was written by “Justin,” a person incarcerated in a Connecticut prison with whom I correspond through my organization, Brothers and Sisters United in Action. He has asked that his last name be withheld out of a very real fear of retaliation from prison officers who may be upset about his speaking out against the injustices he and others experience daily.
Viewpoint: Bring back justice, freedom, upholding Constitution
The major campaign issue of the 2024 Donald Trump candidacy was to deport all of the immigrants who had fled their country for fear of death and then came to the USA outside of legal ports of entry. So many Americans feel that these workers are now our criminals of the century because Trump told them to hate these folks! This issue, more than any other, won the campaign for Trump.
Viewpoint: Trump has earned title as Grifter President
Presidential self-enrichment has always been severely criticized throughout American history which has kept it as a dark scar upon every guilty president even in its rarity. Enter Donald Trump who brought with him a history of self-dealing and corruption from his first term as president. We knew he was a convicted felon on 34 counts, he stiffs his contractors, and he robbed his enrollees in Trump University up to $35,000 each.
Viewpoint: We need to unite and control this administration
Welcome to the world of Donald Trump’s dictatorship! We see it in the dismantling of our USA governmental agencies, the nonprofit private Institute for Peace, and in the justice system of our government and much more. Why is this a surprise to all our American friends? Didn’t they identify the zeal for becoming a dictator within Trump’s words and actions?
Viewpoint: Tariffs, tax cuts to wealthiest will impact U.S. debt
By Nancy Peters Past President Donald Trump began a war of which he hasn’t taken any responsibility. It is the tariff war which has affected in drastic ways the U.S. economy and stirred up a war between us and other nations. Trump is promising to increase tariffs on our imports at a much higher rate so the effects on our consumers will be multiplied much more than in the past six years. Much of my report is from the Tax Foundation of June. Its focus is analyzing tax data for our country.
Viewpoint: Appreciate your liberties or lose them to potential ‘dictator’
By Nancy Peters Donald Trump is promising his voters that he will declare himself dictator of the USA on Day One should he win the presidential election this coming November. This past week the ultraright Supreme Court invented a new provision of the presidential powers that is anti-democracy and shreds our Constitution completely. They are becoming legislators replacing the Senate and House. The high court gave immunity to the laws of our land for the president for all official presidential acts.

Viewpoint: Many reasons for nation’s inflation; will it continue?
More than 1.3 million of our American people were recorded as dying of COVID-19 from 2020 and on. We forget how disastrous the two-plus years of pandemic were on our households as well as on our economy. Yet, the increase in inflation in the United States was much smaller than it was in all countries around the world. We did something right! Just to give a snapshot of historical inflation, 3.8 percent was the average yearly range 1960-2022.
Viewpoint: Country’s leaders have lost their way, wisdom much needed
By Nancy Peters We at Peace Links have sought to promote and encourage ideas and policies that promote within our society in the USA the principles of social justice. It is the road that would harmonize Christianity with the culture, indeed with the values of our country. We are the organization that values all human beings and promotes the pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all human beings. We seek God’s peace on earth.
Viewpoint: Democrats seeking more inclusivity in voting for citizens
By Nancy Peters The 2024 General Election will arrive in November, which while it seems like a long time, there are things that we need to tend to soon. Among the new Iowa voting laws is one that may impact registered voters who were unable to vote in the last one or two general elections. Iowa law now states that voters will be marked as inactive if they missed voting at the last general election. If the voter is inactive for two successive general elections, they can be removed from the rolls.
Viewpoint: Actions by U.S. ‘Christians’ has others questioning their love
By Nancy Peters “We are an atheist country!” explained our tour guide as we explored Prague two weeks ago. Then a second guide, and also the guides on our tours outside and into the Czech Republic countryside each made this statement: “We are an atheist country!” Each of these well-informed guides explained the common feeling of the citizens of the Czech Republic followed the same insights.
