Introduction Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is a rare condition with incidence of 1.8–2.5 per 100,000 person-years1–3 which can result in permanent visual loss, less than 20% of affected patients regaining functional visual acuity (VA).4,5 CRAO can be categorized into three different stages: incomplete CRAO (stage 1), subtotal CRAO (stage 2) and total CRAO (stage 3), based on clinical assessment, fundoscopy and fluorescein angiography (FA).
