I'm your journalist with all corners covered, specializing in meteorology, marine environments, and aviation. Forecasting weather at News8 KFMB is pure joy for a 'weather junkie' like me. While the last 12 years have been dedicated to TV broadcasting, I opened my field to the digital side of media covering a mega event in aerospace - Red Bull Stratos. You may also know it as the 'Space Jump', winning the Streamy Award for Best Live Event 2012!
As the embedded reporter/web editor for RedBullStratos.com I captured the stories behind the mission. Our digital team created a go-to information hub for followers and held the attention of a worldwide audience for nearly a year leading up to the live jump Oct. 14, 2012 and continues to be a successful platform. Not only did Felix break records in freefall, we set records for web traffic. YouTube: 8 million concurrent viewers. RedBullStratos.com: 21.7 million visits/50 million page views/850,000 + concurrent viewers.
I have a bachelor's degree in Telecommunications from Pepperdine University and hold the AMS (American Meteorological Society) seal of approval via Mississippi State University. My most challenging accomplishment came with wings, earning a private pilot certificate and instrument rating thanks to a scholarship from The Ninety-Nines Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Volunteer work history includes diving at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Birch Aquarium for underwater shows and marine biology research. Trading my wetsuit for power point presentations, I also give talks on aviation weather for local organizations, EAA and FAAST.
