Nathan Crooks’s Biography

Nathan Crooks is a Miami-based journalist and editor, currently working on a new newsroom endeavor at Quantfury. He was previously US Managing Editor at The Block. Before that, he spent 12 years at Bloomberg News, where he reported and edited stories worldwide with more than a decade in Latin America as a foreign correspondent and bureau chief. Nathan completed an MBA at American University in Washington, D.C. and holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto, where he specialized in political science and Latin American studies.

Prior to returning to the US in early 2017, Nathan was the Caracas Bureau Chief in Venezuela for Bloomberg and spent six years covering the political and economic crisis in the country and its impact on bonds, currency and oil. He was previously an energy and commodities reporter with Bloomberg in Caracas and Santiago de Chile.

Before joining Bloomberg, Nathan led coverage of the energy and oil sectors for Business News Americas (BNamericas) in Santiago, where he started out as an energy reporter covering Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Venezuela. He previously was Editor of The Santiago Times, Chile's then only English-language news daily, where he wrote stories and oversaw a staff of aspiring journalists.

Nathan has done numerous TV and radio interviews with outlets including Bloomberg, NPR and the BBC and has moderated panels in both English and Spanish. He has covered many of the region's biggest stories over the past years including the 8.8 mega earthquake in Chile, the rescue of the 33 miners in northern Chile, the death of former President Hugo Chavez in Venezuela and the subsequent economic and social collapse during the era of Nicolas Maduro. He's interviewed presidents, government ministers and CEOs. In Florida, he's interviewed local officials, covered the state legislature and governor, and been involved in coverage of Miami's burgeoning tech and finance scene.

Nathan is a native of Clarion, Pennsylvania, and he's studied in Australia, Venezuela, Mexico, and the Czech Republic. He was a Rotary exchange student to Caracas. Nathan speaks fluent English and Spanish.
