High Energy Physics - Phenomenology
In the minimal anomaly-free gauged B$-$L extension of the Standard Model (SM), we consider a scenario in which the energy density of the new Abelian gauge boson dominates the Universe prior to big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN), resulting in an early matter-dominated (EMD) era.

Why 24/7 Markets Need 24/7 Intelligence
Traditional financial infrastructure was designed around trading sessions. Markets opened. Markets closed. Data was analyzed, risk was assessed, portfolios were reviewed, and decisions were made within relatively predictable time windows. Digital assets changed this architecture. Crypto markets operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is no closing bell. While one region sleeps, another is active.
What it’s like for a renter - a personal perspective of the housing crisis
At one of the apartments that Nayan Das visited in the hope of finding another relatively short term home, having pretty much given up on owning a home, he met another prospective tenant who seemed a bit panicked. She had just a week to go before being officially homeless. Should he give up his application in her favour? “If people cannot be pragmatically optimistic, then being a pessimist is not bad either.
Light Dirac neutrino portal dark matter with gauged $U(1{)}_{B\ensuremath{-}L}$ symmetry
We propose a gauged U(1)B−L version of the light Dirac neutrino portal dark matter. The U(1)B−L symmetry provides a UV completion by naturally accommodating three right-handed neutrinos from anomaly cancellation requirements which, in combination with the left-handed neutrinos, form the sub-eV Dirac neutrinos after electroweak symmetry breaking.
Thermalized dark radiation in the presence of a PBH: $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}{\mathrm{N}}_{\mathrm{eff}}$ and gravitational waves complementarity
We study the possibility of detecting dark radiation (DR) produced by a combination of interactions with the thermal bath and ultralight primordial black hole (PBH) evaporation in the early Universe. We show that the detection prospects via cosmic microwave background (CMB) measurements of the effective relativistic degrees of freedom ΔNeff get enhanced in some part of the parameter space compared to the purely nonthermal case where DR is produced solely from a PBH.

Freeze-in dark matter via a light Dirac neutrino portal
Abstract We propose a scenario where dark matter (DM) can be generated nonthermally due to the presence of a light Dirac neutrino portal between the standard model (SM) and dark sector particles. The SM is minimally extended by three right-handed neutrinos (νR), a Dirac fermion DM candidate (ψ) and a complex scalar (ϕ), transforming nontrivially under an unbroken Z4 symmetry while being singlets under the SM gauge group.

Still at the crease
The midday sun shone grimly on Sahil. The heat waves blowing from the courtyard were staunch reminders to not venture out. The cool indoors looked inviting. The verandah chair, the ceiling fan and the perspiring glass of fruit juice desperately shouting the eleven-year-old back inside. Nevertheless, Sahil strode out, cricket bat in one hand and a tennis ball in the other. His destination was the garage wall on the far side of the courtyard. Muddy ball marks tattoed the whitewashed cement.
Tofu in a soy-honey sauce
I am back in the kitchen and this time there is no let off. After days of rapprochement and over-thinking, I have decided to not think at all. All my decisions are going to be spontaneous from now on. Like this tofu this I made yesterday. It was just lying in the fridge awaiting its judgement – miso soup or scrambled tofu sandwich were my confusions.
A laidback guide to North Bengal
Why laidback? Because that is perhaps the best way to go about exploring the Darjeeling Hills and the Dooars. This is not a trip with calculated pitstops or assigned designations. You stop when you need to, you walk until you cannot, you explore until your heart’s content. This is another reason I think you should plan your trip to North Bengal without a guide or tour agencies. I always found those packages lack the same enthusiasm you possess when you are exploring the place.
Foreigner flying kite
Feroze was having a very pleasant afternoon. The after-taste of the spicy biryani was still lingering on his palate and soft kernels of rice were lodged lazily in between his wide, spacious teeth. His mother had always ensured the tall, lanky grocer stayed well fed, but she outdid herself that day. The intermittent loud belches were a testimony to how much he enjoyed his meal; the smell of sautéed onions mingling with the rust of garlic and ginger displayed for sale.
The spiced tea cake
A simple and easy recipe that is sure to brighten up your day. It’s inspired by one I saw online and hence the process remains the same. I have tinkered with the quantity of the ingredients to suit my own baking needs. 𙂠Preheat the oven to 180C. Grease and line the base and sides of a 20 cm-diameter cake tin with baking paper. Add the milk and water, and the tea to a small saucepan, place over medium heat, bring to the boil, then reduce to low and simmer for 10 minutes.
How to make hummus at home
Here’s a dish a lot of people love to eat in cafes and restaurants, but never really make at home. Why? Perhaps, it’s time, or the effort, and even the recipe. I didn’t know the complete recipe for hummus before I started making it on my own. The ingredients are very easy to get and this takes no time to make, at all! Now I made the entire thing from scratch, but you can cut the line at places and shorten your workload.
The collapsed orange cake with a dark chocolate icing
I left the oven lid open and went to get a skewer to check. All the while, I had mistakenly pulled the baking mould halfway out of the oven, and gravity did the rest. It was splat on the kitchen counter for about 3 seconds, before we could turn it over and see the damage. Thankfully it was nearly done, but it looked like an asteroid had landed on it. I de-moulded it and turned it over. The based was perfect and so we went ahead with the icing. Clean and chop the orange, and remove all the seeds.
Oats with sun-dried mushrooms and spinach
Breaking the habit here. Made my oats a little savoury today. I had to work with these wonderfully dried oyster mushrooms for breakfast. People in the hills dry most of the food items to extend their shelf life – fish, meat, vegetables or rice. Oats – Mix 1 cup oats with two and a half cups of water and bring to boil in a saucepan. Then lower the heat and simmer for 2-3 mins while stirring. One it turns into a thick porridge-like consistency, remove from heat and cover the pan with a lid.
Matcha & orange marble cake
This recipe was all due to my fascination with Matcha. Recently, I got myself a pack of Tea Trunk and knew that a recipe was on the cards. A very important tip: Use a weighing scale for this recipe. Do not try to make it by Googling the conversions. Also, this recipe was inspired from one I saw on Tasty! Full credit to them for the original version. Using an electric hand mixer/blender, beat the clarified butter and caster sugar until the sugar dissolves and the mix is pale white in colour.
Green tea & coconut pannacotta
This one is really simple if you’ve got the ingredients. I recommend making a shopping list for this dish, just before you set off to make it. Bring a third of a cup of water to a boil and remove from heat. Stir in the matcha powder until it completely dissolves. In a saucepan, heat the coconut milk, vanilla essence and salt until the mix comes to a light simmer. Remove from heat and mix the honey, maple syrup or sugar (whichever you are using) until it dissolves.

Asian fish curry with coconut milk
Assam is a place where you cannot avoid fish. It is as frequently eaten as perhaps idlis in Chennai, kebabs in Lucknow or vada pavs in Maharastra. We pride ourselves on having fertile waters for the fishes and a keen eye while picking out the best produce. I put my Assamese mind to good use this time I was home. We were with a nice big aari maas (giant river catfish). This fish had no major bone except for the spine, so you fillet it nice and proper.
Banana & peanut butter ice-cream
Continuing on the healthy foods promise from last week, here’s another recipe that is low in fat and indulges all your sweet cravings just in time for a quick after-lunch treat. Cut the frozen bananas into small pieces, preferably an inch long. Transfer to the blender along with the milk. Blitz till smooth and creamy. If required, add a little more milk to loosen the mix. Once smooth, add the peanut butter and the cinnamon powder to the blender and blitz once more to combine everything.
The Sicilian Orange Cake
Like so many great dishes I make, this one was born out of sheer curiosity. I just had to make a cake with orange after I had a piece of a similar one in Bengaluru a while back. Unfortunately, I had never cooked with an orange batter before and decided to seek inspiration online. Most of the recipes either had orange pulp or the juice. Fittingly enough, it was a Scottish-Italian cook in Los Angeles who had the daring recipe of using an entire orange instead.
Roasted chicken salad + barbecue sauce dressing
Many of you guys know that I really look up to Donal Skehan and he inspires me to cook, to travel and to generally be a good human being. I had written him a letter a few years back and his dear wife Sophie (who is so amazing and so gorgeous!) was kind enough to reply. It was just the sort of push I needed at that moment and kept me going. I’ll probably share that letter a little later. Hehe. Get it? Letter later? No?
