Ascending and descending motor pathways converge in the centrolateral nucleus of the thalamus

Abstract The tectorecipient thalamus plays a critical role in the dynamic interplay between cortical and subcortical activity patterns; yet integration of these signals at the individual neuron level remains poorly understood. Here we demonstrate that projections from the deep layers of the superior colliculus (SC) and motor cortex innervate the centrolateral (CL) nucleus of the thalamus, and that tectorecipient CL neurons project to the striatum and motor cortex.
