What NCBA is doing to Protect the Cattle Industry from New World Screwworm
Written by Buck Wehrbein, NCBA President This year, NCBA has talked a lot about the threat of New World screwworm (NWS). We were the first national organization involved when screwworm was moving through Central America, and we raised alarm bells when it appeared in Mexico at the end of last year. In July, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) detected screwworm north of Veracruz, Mexico — about 370 miles from the U.S. border.
Inaction on traceability is unacceptable Original
By Mark Eisele, Wyoming Cattle Producer and NCBA President The future of the U.S. cattle industry hinges on our ability to swiftly respond to disease outbreaks. Yet, some groups and individuals continue to fight the tools that could protect our livelihoods. The most recent rule to come under fire is USDA’s animal disease traceability regulation. In the face of a potential FMD outbreak, every minute counts.

The future of the U.S. cattle industry hinges on our ability to swiftly respond to disease outbreaks. Yet, some groups and individuals continue to fight the tools that could protect our livelihoods. The most recent rule to come under fire is USDA’s animal disease traceability regulation. In the face of a potential FMD outbreak, every minute counts. The choice between outdated methods and advanced technology could mean the difference between a controlled situation and a nationwide catastrophe.
Eisele: New Law Protects American Farmland and Food Security
In Washington, there is a little-known government board called the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). Its purpose is simple—review foreign transactions for their national security implications in the U.S.—but today this committee has new importance for protecting America’s farmland and food security. The committee was first created by President Gerald R.
NCBA Op-Ed : Fight the Animal Rights Groups Infiltrating Our Industry
Over the past few weeks, I have seen news articles and social media posts lying about our industry, attacking our association, and endangering the programs that generations of farmers and ranchers worked hard to establish—and I am fed up. This week, a group of animal rights activists and those who do their bidding sent a letter to Congress in support of the deceptively named “Opportunities for Fairness in Farming” or OFF Act. Well let’s call it what it really is: the Obliterating Family Farms Act.

NCBA Op-Ed : Traceability is a Means to Safeguarding the Industry
When asked what concerns me most for our industry’s future, one of the first things that comes to mind is the threat of a foreign animal disease outbreak on U.S. soil. This is why animal disease traceability has been a primary focus for me as an NCBA leader. In 2021, the NCBA Board of Directors approved a strategic plan to give the organization a more focused approach to engaging with cattle producers, policy makers and consumers.

Editorial : From Congress to Courtrooms NCBA is Defending You
Today, cattlemen and women across the United States face turbulent times. The return of long standing issues like “Waters of the United States,” and new Endangered Species Act (ESA) listings are just two examples of misguided, ineffective, and poorly implemented policies coming from federal regulators in Washington.

NCBA Op-Ed : Producer Support of Beef Checkoff Remains Strong
Jerry Bohn Steven Johnson More than 35 years ago beef producers came together to develop a program to drive demand for beef, and the Checkoff they created continues today stronger than ever. Cattle producers have accomplished great things for the industry by working together to direct Checkoff investments. The Beef Checkoff belongs to the cattlemen and cattlewomen who pay and direct it, and they have the right to decide the future of this great program.
Beef is, and always will be sustainable
NCBA president speaks out about beef being painted as a villain in climate change. Jerry Bohn, NCBA President | Feb 24, 2021 There is an ongoing conversation in consumer spaces about beef’s contribution to climate change. In many circles, beef is being painted as a villain that can be minimized and/or eliminated to help solve global climate issues. On the ground, as cattle producers, we know this isn’t accurate.
